A Pastel Perfection Wedding with Classic Elements of Light Blue

Friday, July 16th, 2021

Kelsey and Brian’s pastel perfection wedding with classic elements of light blue was full of love and celebration as the two said, “I do.” The couple met in Albuquerque, and after one date, Kelsey knew she had met her future husband. Brian and Kelsey kept one thing in mind as they approached the final days of planning their wedding. In the end, the only thing that mattered was that they became husband and wife. The couple married at The View at Hillside Barn. Robyn’s Flower Garden turned Kelsey’s wedding dream into a reality by using pastel florals to create the whimsical garden party look she had always envisioned. The best moment of the couple’s special day came when Kelsey walked down the aisle to her groom. Emotion took hold of Brian as he saw his bride and realized the two were finally promising their lives to each other. All of the emotion and details were captured beautifully by Meg Rose Photography for the couple to look back on for years to come. The newlyweds danced the night away and made their grand exit minutes before a massive rainstorm to the Mayo Hotel. As the couple drove in the midst of a downpour, they remembered the old wive’s tale that rain on your wedding day signifies good luck. Keep scrolling to see all the pastel perfection and what the bride said about her dream wedding maker.

From the bride on her most helpful vendor: “Our photographer, Meg Rose Photography, was the absolute best! She created a wedding day timeline from start to finish and helped the whole day run smoothly. We have every single moment from the day captured to look back on for years to come. She was the first vendor I booked and was such a great investment.”

Charity and Cameron’s intimate garden wedding reflected the couple’s relaxed and natural style. The couple married on a beautiful May evening, surrounded by close friends and family at Daffodil Hill. The special day carried touches of personalized details with earthy tones and subtle pops of color with cherry red florals. Charity opted for a classic A-line dress from Bella Rose Bridal- Edmond and paired it with a sentimental detail – her grandmother’s diamond bracelet. There was not a dry eye in the room as the couple topped off their intimate wedding by sharing personalized wedding vows. Susan Alyse Photography captured every personal and stunning detail throughout the evening. Keep scrolling to see all of the fun pops of cherry red in this intimate garden wedding.

From the bride: “Our favorite wedding day memory was hearing each other’s personal vows and being able to read them in front of close friends and family.”

Tips For Choosing the Best Songs for the Major Wedding Moments

Wednesday, June 30th, 2021

Music is usually at the core of the celebration, so it’s vitally important that you choose a playlist that best represents the feel YOU want to have throughout your big day. Maybe you have an idea of what songs you’d like played for each major moment or maybe you have no idea at all! Either way, it’s always best to hear from the experts. We’ve enlisted the pros from the premiere wedding band, The Royal Dukes Band, to give some insight on how to create a music list as unique as your love story!

Tips For Choosing the Best Songs for the Major Wedding Moments

What “moments” in the wedding day need music?

A memorable wedding day soundtrack is so important for every moment! Your walk down the aisle, first dance, and parent dances are such special moments. One fun addition is choosing a final song to close out the night. This can be a romantic moment for just the couple or a group celebration where all your friends and family join in.

What moments are often overlooked? How can music make an impact?

There are rarely overlooked moments at a wedding, but there’s always room for adding extra personality with live music. For example, the cake cutting can be highlighted when paired with an on-theme song (think “Sugar,” “How Sweet It Is,” “Cake by the Ocean”).

Once a bride knows what moments she needs music for, how should she go about finding what she wants or what is meaningful?

This is really a personal preference, after all it is your big day! You could choose music for each moment that has significance for you and your partner or music that the whole room will be familiar with. For instance, a first dance can be an intimate, emotional moment when paired with a slow song or ballad. Some couples have their first dance choreographed and really like to engage the crowd with an upbeat tune. A good band should have enough experience to help out with this if you’re unsure. We’ve seen song choices that get the tears of joy going as well as songs that get people grooving in their seats. We’ve even put together mashups for clients so they can have the ultimate first dance!

royal dukes band

If the bride wants to blend different music styles, is there a way to make different styles sound cohesive?

Of course! We know couples worry about pleasing the crowd when it comes to a great playlist. Mixing your favorite classics with Top 40 is a sure way to get everyone grooving, from Grandpa to your 6-year old niece. A great band will know how to transition seamlessly between Motown, rock, pop and your favorite country song without missing a beat.

Should the bride pick a theme or sound for the event? Or can she just select her favorite songs? How do you recommend people start that process?

One of the first things we do in our planning process with our couples is find out their must plays, favorite songs, artists, and what they really don’t want to hear on their wedding day. From there, we customize a playlist based on their favorite music. This can also allow room for the band to read the crowd and switch up the music when needed, leaving everyone’s feet where they should be – on the dance floor!

In your experience, what is the one thing brides who enjoy their wedding music do?

Dance the night away! Weddings are such a unique event surrounded by your friends and family – the best setting for busting a move (or ten!). A live band makes those dance floor moments that much more memorable!

wedding band

How does live music make an impact?

Live music really sets the tone for your day and elevates your event. A live band gives you a one-of-a-kind, romantic and personal feel for your ceremony. For the reception, it’s like your own private concert and epic dance party with your friends and family!

How do you help brides with this process? What do you love most about it?

A talented and experienced band will know exactly which songs are dance floor favorites. That ability to read the room combined with the couple’s musical preferences is a winning combination. We also have a unique online planning system that allows clients to customize their event timeline and musical preferences. This guarantees that every Royal Dukes event is carried out seamlessly, so couples can focus on life rather than stressing over the details.

Our musicians are passionate about creating memorable events. The Royal Dukes bring energy and fun to every event they perform and pride themselves on filling dance floors. What better feeling than seeing the look of love and gratitude on a couple’s face when all their best friends and family join them on the dance floor! That feeling is why we love what we do.

A special thanks to The Royal Dukes Band for sharing their expert insights. To learn more about their band or how to book them for your wedding, visit their vendor profile here.

Juneteenth | Reflecting on a History of Black Weddings

Saturday, June 19th, 2021

We’re reflecting on this Juneteenth with a look back on decades of beautiful Black marriages because now and always #blacklovematters. Today, we celebrate love and the significance of this holiday (June 19, 1865, also known as Freedom Day), commemorating General Gordon Granger’s reading of federal orders in the city of Galveston, Texas, proclaiming all enslaved were to be free in the state of Texas – almost two and half years after the Emancipation Proclamation had formally freed slaves. It’s an era of time that may seem far from today yet we are only generations removed from it.

We acknowledge how far we’ve come as we reflect on a time when Black marriage wasn’t recognized or legal, yet are reminded how much work we have left to do to take action against inequities Black Americans still face. We lift up and stand in solidarity with the Black community, and we promise to use our voice to influence social change as we work toward ensuring a better and far more just tomorrow.

Read more about our promise to our community. Also, many thanks to @cocktailterrica, @theflowerguybron, @cecedesignsllc and @typebirdcreative for crafting a creed we fully adopt and spearheading #unitythroughcommunity to rid the wedding industry of racism, prejudice and bias.

“Still, despite the reign of terror that slavery spawned and no matter how much it altered and disfigured black marriages, it did not and could not annihilate them—or the love that sustained them. African Americans proved relentlessly creative and resourceful in building marriages and kinship ties that functioned for their survival. We should never lose sight of the depth of feelings and affection that undergirded these relationships and the sacrifices they were willing to make for the sake of preserving them.”

First Wedding Planning Steps to Take After You Get Engaged

Friday, April 30th, 2021

You’re engaged! Now what? Our account executive, Quincy, is sharing her tips on the first wedding planning steps you should take!

Step One: Budget

When beginning your wedding planning process it is important to sit down with your partner, your parents, or whoever else may be helping you financially and set a budget! Before you are able to book any vendors you need to have a good idea of how much you are willing to spend. It is also important to take time with your partner and discuss which vendors and details are on the top of your list. Maybe you both really want a good DJ for your reception, make that a priority in the budget and then you can workout other vendors around it!

Step Two: Photographer/Videographer

Your photographer and videographer are vendors that you want to nail down early. They tend to book up quickly so the sooner you can find the perfect fit for you the more likely it is that they will be available! Finding your photographer early also allows you plenty of time to schedule engagement pictures for those save the dates and gives you time to make sure you’re getting exactly what you want!

Step 3: Guest List

Creating your guest list can be a little daunting at first but don’t be afraid to start big. You can begin with a large list that allows you to narrow down your numbers to the people you really want to share your special day with! Invite the people who make you two feel loved and supported! Don’t forget that your wedding is a day to celebrate you two as a couple! Whether you want a small intimate wedding or a huge celebration, do what feels right for the two of you. Make sure to reference your budget when you have your list narrowed down to ensure that you can afford to accommodate the amount of people you plan to invite!

Step 4: Venue

Once you have a guest number in mind you can go look for the perfect venue! There are so many options from rustic barns, to ballrooms, to a fun destination! Know your vision for your dream day and begin to find spaces that bring that vision to life. Once you find a venue, you can lock-in a date for your wedding and begin planning all the other details around it!

Step 5: Other Key Vendors

Having your date set allows you to begin searching for and hiring other vendors. At this point you may begin looking for a wedding planner, florists, caterers, and even start looking for that perfect dress! This is the time where you can start bringing all the details of your wedding vision to life and working with vendors to create your dream day! Don’t be afraid to ask questions and use the experience and creativity of your vendors, they do know a thing or two about weddings!

Step 6: Relax and Enjoy

Wedding planning can be very busy, but don’t let it take away from celebrating your engagement! Take time to step away from planning and just enjoy this season of engagement with your partner! Use this sweet time of being engaged to celebrate, relax, and dream about life after the wedding day!

How to Incorporate Pets Into Your Wedding

Thursday, April 22nd, 2021

Want to incorporate pets into your wedding?  Include your furry friend in your big day with these tips from our community manager and associate editor, Lauren!

There are so many fun ways to have your furry friend be a very special part of your wedding day! They can walk down the aisle as a “flower girl” or even come down the aisle with the bridesmaids and groomsmen! If you are wanting them a little less involved, they can always come sit by the parents… just know that they are as excited as you to have as little or as big of a part of your big day!

Another super unique way to incorporate your pets is to feature them in the details of the wedding! Putting your pet’s picture on the save the date or the invitation is such an adorable way to incorporate them into the smaller details of the wedding! If you’re worried about your pet getting in the way of your guests we have a solution for you! Getting a day-of pet attendant will keep you stress-free while your pet still gets to be a part of the day… what could be better than that?!

Your furry friend will also need to be dressed for the occasion! Tuxedos, flower crowns, flower collars, and dresses are all super cute ways to make sure your pet is dressed to the nines for the big day! Letting your pet’s personality show through their outfit will allow them and you to shine and feel your best at the wedding!

5 Ways to Help Keep Your Wedding Guests Safe

Friday, April 9th, 2021

With vaccines rolling out and mandates being lifted, life may seem like it’s on its way back to – dare we say – normal? However, if you’re hosting a wedding anytime soon, precautions are still very necessary to help keep your wedding guests safe. Just no sense in taking a chance! Read on for five smart ways to celebrate safely and make sure your guests enjoy themselves while keeping risk factors as low as possible.

5 Ways to Help Keep Your Wedding Guests Safe

Photos // Paper + More, Aaron Snow Photography

1. Make Use of Outdoor + Open-Air Spaces

Taking your celebrations outside helps to keep air flow at a maximum and allows you to take advantage of tons of extra space for distancing. A win-win! If you haven’t considered a tented reception, we totally recommend looking into this option. From frame tents to structured tents to the whimsical sailcloth options, wedding tents have expanded in style, selection and more over the last decade. Tents allow your guests to have a constant source of fresh air and to spread out, even in the event of less-than-ideal weather.

If a tent isn’t an option, consider outdoor venues with usable lawn space to allow guests to move around safely.

2. Maintain Socially Distanced Seating Throughout the Day

This is where a seating chart becomes extra important. To help keep your wedding guests safe, you’ll want to carefully consider seating arrangements and make sure social distance is maintained throughout the day, from ceremony to cocktail hour to dinner and beyond. Work with your venue and your planner to make sure tables of people who aren’t from the same household are far enough apart, consider a few different lounge areas with seating spaced a smart distance apart and consider a VIP seating section for certain parts of the day for those guests who may be more high-risk.

3. Don’t Skimp on Germ Protection

Take a stand against infection risk by making sure you have plenty of individual hand sanitizers, masks and mini wipe packets conveniently available for guests in as many places as possible. Anti-bacterial stations placed strategically throughout your venue are always smart, as are individual items placed at each guest’s seat. Take the opportunity to add a punch of pizazz to these items by having them made custom to match the branded elements of your wedding! Whether you have a monogram or a distinct color scheme for your wedding, small items like these are perfect places to carry your wedding theme even further.

4. Serve Meals Safely

Cocktail hour and mealtime are two parts of your day where you’ll want to be extra mindful of your guests’ safety. Your bartenders and caterers should still be taking all necessary precautions to serve food and drinks safely. We definitely recommend individual dining options for cocktail hour, like personal snack boxes, individually wrapped hors d’oeuvres or if you do go with a buffet option, making sure sneeze screens are in place and that minimal servers make contact with the food before it’s passed on to each guest. Single-serve is the name of the game!

5. Consider On-Site Testing

If you want to go the extra mile and do the absolute most to ensure the safety of your family in friends in attendance, consider on-site testing. You could have designated temperature takers wearing gloves and masks, using a quick-scan digital thermometer to monitor guests’ temperatures as they enter, or you can even go as far as to offer on-site rapid Covid tests for your guests! RightNow Laboratory is a testing company based in Texas that provides rapid Covid tests for couples and their wedding guests, with two different options for results available in as little as ten minutes with an antigen test, or a molecular test version with results available in 30 minutes.

Bonus: Invest in a Planner’s Expertise

Planning a wedding is overwhelming no matter when you’re getting married, but add in the stress of a lasting pandemic and you have quite a few extra issues you’ll need to think through. A professional wedding planner is trained and experienced to consider all possible situations and come up with solutions that make the most sense for you, your guests and your budget. We can’t emphasize enough the importance of a planner’s expertise!

A Luxe Gold + White Destination Wedding Fit for Royalty

Tuesday, April 6th, 2021

Ashton and Chad’s gold and white destination wedding in Ridgedale, Missouri, looked as if it was planned for royalty! This couple brought some of the best Oklahoma vendors to their not-so-far-away destination wedding. One of the bride’s most notable vendors was Poppy’s Garden, and we can understand why. There is absolutely no shortage of stunning florals, from grand gold and white floral centerpieces to a flowery rose petal path down the aisle to the boujee bouquet. The bride and groom began their fairytale of a wedding with white and gold calligraphy invitations from Laurel & Marie. Complete with ridged edges and a gold-foiled stamp, who wouldn’t assume these come from a palace? The ceremony took place in a small and charming stone chapel. Ashton, the beautiful bride, was undoubtedly the center of attention, despite all the natural beauty from this picturesque location with elegant features from Oklahoma’s very own vendors. MLB Artistry gave her a glowing makeup look that made her look like a real-life princess. The wedding party added to all the timeless elegance between the bridesmaid’s black and white gowns and the men’s tuxedos. After a ceremony, the party moved into the ballroom, where blooming blooms added a soft touch to this rustic industrial reception. Thankfully, you don’t have to visualize all this majestic magic because Emily Nicole Photo got all the goods on camera… get ready to pin your favorite details from this charming affair! We wish happily ever after to Mr. and Mrs. Wheeler!

From Ashton on her dream wedding maker: “All of my vendors were amazing, but my florist, Meagan Ferren with Poppy’s Garden helped me the most. Since I did not have a planner, she was so kind to help guide me and make suggestions during my planning process. She also referred me to several venders including Laurel & Marie and Emily Nicole Photo, who I selected for the big day. They were both excellent choices!”
