Set in the golden light of Sonoma, California, Courtney and Kellen’s beautiful destination wedding is all things bright, preppy and sweet! Gibson Events perfectly executed the couple’s vision for their special day in every detail from the family style table seating to the greenery-adorned white wood bar. After the newlyweds exchanged vows and rings from BC Clark Jewelers, celebrations continued in the lush outdoor space decorated in hues of deep navy contrasted by cheery yellow, hot pink and blush. Florals from Poppy Lane Design gave the space a dose of sweetness in the bride and her maids’ bouquets, as well as adorning tabletops and chair backs for the ceremony. We can’t get enough of this cheerful celebration!

Oklahoma Cake Artist Spotlight Series – Amy Cakes

In the current issue of Brides of Oklahoma we sat down with some of the most talented Oklahoma wedding cake artists at Waters Edge Winery to find out more about their design process and what sets them apart from the rest! Over the next month, we’ll be highlighting each talented designer and their gorgeous cakes created just for this issue! Today’s lovely cake baker is none other than the talented Amy Cullifer of Amy Cakes. Her stunning cake design left us breathless! See what she has to say about this design and what sets her lovely confections apart. Thanks to Ely Fair Photography for capturing these fabulous images!

About the Design
The featured cake is a quadruple stacked 8 inch with double six inch tier. It’s covered with lightly marbled fondant and finished with gold leaf and a crown of fresh flowers. With cakes as with many things, less is more. Each element is distinct but not disjointed. Harmony was and always is the goal.

About the Artist
I discovered my passion for baking and decorating at a young age. Over the years, I have been very fortunate to have worked with some amazing bakers and decorators. I enjoy teaching and sharing my love for creating cakes. In 2005, I started Amy Cakes with the encouragement of a friend and neighbor. I often pinch myself, thinking “I am living my dream career!” – 26 years and it is still my love. To me and my team, it’s not “just cake” – it’s memories, milestones and edible art.

Words of Wisdom
Meet with as many bakers as you can. The most important thing is that your baker not only understands but really sees the vision you have for your wedding no matter how grand or humble it might be. Also consider taste. Remember, you’ll be sharing this with those you love and care for the most. As long as you plan with celebration in mind, you cannot go wrong!

Destination Wedding Tips from Michelle’s Destinations Unlimted

Navigate your destination wedding planning with ease with the help of travel expert Michelle Carbone of Michelle’s Destinations Unlimited. Her talented team makes planning from afar a breeze. Here are a few tips from the expert herself to kick off your destination wedding on the right foot.

Give Notice

Give your guests ample notice. A year or more is ideal to allow guests to obtain passports and start tucking away money for the trip!

Stay Connected

Make sure to communicate with guests fairly regularly, especially those you don’t see in person a lot – if you use an agency like Michelle’s Destinations Unlimited, they keep a list of who all is booked and update their couples so you know who hasn’t booked yet!  They also make a wedding page for guests on their website with the details that can be updated anytime!

Make Photos a Priority

If there is one place you should never skimp, it’s photography! You’ll have these photos forever and they are sure to be the best keepsake from your day. Leave it to the professionals, whether you choose to bring one from home or hire a local professional!

Plan a Special Celebration

If you have more than 10 guests, plan to have a reception the evening of your wedding.  Many couples want to skip this at an all-inclusive resort and simply dine at one of the included restaurants, but guests have paid a lot of money to be there for your special day. Treat them to a private dinner on the beach or by the pool!

Set Deadlines

Set deadlines and stick to them! For the travel arrangements, having a date guests need to book by and telling them that booking is their RSVP, helps you know how many are attending, allows you flexibility if you’ve done blocked group space and ensures you don’t get any last minute guests who suddenly decide to come after you’ve already made plans for a smaller number of guests.

Skip the Traditional Rehearsal

Bypass a traditional rehearsal dinner – while you can choose to know that you’re not going to have a rehearsal in most cases, so a dinner isn’t a necessity. Many couples will have an informal gathering to welcome guests, but skip on paying for an additional group dinner. Think outside the box and set up a bonfire on the beach with s’mores (or other snacks, all up to you and your taste)!
