Katie was vacationing in Grand Cayman when she happened to cross paths with Nathan, the extroverted New Zealander in her music and film class at the University of Tulsa. Nathan was on the last night of his trip but connected with Katie on Facebook. The pair instantly clicked!
The summer of 2016 was a long one spent apart – Katie stayed in Tulsa to study for the bar exam while Nathan was in New Zealand. To celebrate taking the bar, Katie planned a trip to California Wine Country at the end of the summer with the plan of meeting up with Nathan in San Francisco afterward. When the two reunited, Nathan invited her for a stroll around a yacht club before dinner. On the walk, he started telling her how much he loved her and how he saw a future with her. As they walked, they had a spectacular view of the Golden Gate Bridge. Nathan got down on one knee as the magnificent golden hour began and Katie excitedly said yes. The newly engaged couple enjoyed a memorable steak dinner – but not before calling family and friends with their news!
Katie and Nathan had a touching ceremony at Camp Loughridge, and the newlyweds were whisked away in a private Rolls-Royce ride to Five Oaks Lodge. The space looked breathtaking with white tablecloths and florals in white, blush and peach with ample greenery. The wedding cake featured real flowers cascading down the layers, while the groom’s cake had a silver fern, a New Zealand symbol. Guests enjoyed a delicious dinner, sentimental speeches and dancing. Katie and Nathan cherished being surrounded by so many loved ones – some who traveled all the way from New Zealand!
