“This southern styled shoot is a pure reflection of me as a designer. I am an old soul at heart and love how old and new combined can be so beautiful. Old French provincial designs, silver, vintage china, unique tabletop pieces are some of my favorites to work with. I think tradition is a beautiful thing and it can be incorporated in so many different ways and I wanted to showcase how that can be done in this shoot. I loved this shoot because there are no rules, I intuitively designed it based off of elements that meant so much to me. Because of that, it all paired together beautifully. The same can be done for our clients and what means the most to them. That to me is what being a wedding designer is about.”
When asked where she draws her inspiration and her signature style as a designer, Allyson says this: “My aesthetic as a designer is very intuitive and just going with what pulls at my strings. I’ve realized some of my best work doesn’t come from following every rule and worrying too much about what makes perfect ‘sense.’ I love gorgeous details and just putting together what complements my couples’ unique stories. I would describe myself as an old soul in a new world, and I love the combination that brings out in me as a designer, especially for weddings. I love the different demographics I am able to work in as well since I was raised in both the country and city. They each include beautiful scenery that I couldn’t choose between if I had to.”

“The Gray wedding has been one of my favorite weddings as a designer. I loved how Garrison and Cody wanted it to be the two of them only during the ceremony, yet surrounded by all of their family and friends. I think it is incredibly special when two people keep the focus on them like this and kept their large guest list to celebrate with at the reception. It was an amazing celebration. Garrison has a very southern elegance about her, and she loves peonies, garden roses, neutral bashful color palettes and glam with rustic elements. Cody has a rustic flare, and the combination of it all in a gorgeous white barn on the lake was perfect for them.”
Allyson’s biggest advice for her couples is to stay true to themselves, stay true to their budget and to invest in the things that truly matter. “I always recommend that my couples discuss if they see themselves celebrating in a small celebration or with all of their family and friends, near and far. Then following is the importance of budget. My focus on budget is about what’s most important to you. What will you wish you had done differently looking back in ten years? I always recommend the three most important investments of commemorating their wedding day, venue, photographer and videographer. These three decisions will reflect the experience of their wedding day in measures I can’t describe.”
We couldn’t agree more with her invaluable advice, and we’re still swooning over all the beautiful styled shoots and weddings of hers we’ve seen! To inquire with Allyson Whitney Designs, get in touch via her vendor profile!
