A Proposal Amid House Hunting
Louis and I met in 2016. He had just moved to Lawton after commissioning into the Army, and I lived in Oklahoma City while working and going to school. After six months of dating, Louis got stationed in El Paso, Texas. We continued our relationship long-distance for a year and a half, and then he asked me to move in with him. In December 2020, we learned that we would be moving back to Lawton for Louis’ job. We spent some time with our families for the holidays and then decided to spend a few days in Lawton to look at houses. After many long days of house shopping, Louis and I decided to take a break and hike a trail we were both familiar with. As we were taking in the view, I asked Louis if we could call it our special spot. He looked at me with a bizarre face and asked, “Why would we do that?” I rolled my eyes in annoyance and began walking off. When I heard him call my name, I turned around to find him down on one knee with the most beautiful ring. It may have taken a while, but I eventually was able to squeal out a “YES!” And a few hours later, we received a call from our realtor saying a seller accepted our offer on a house we both loved! Louis is so kind-hearted and has the sweetest disposition. I often reflect on the life we have together, and every time I do, I am reminded that I am one of the luckiest people on this earth.
