About the Design
This little lovely has a lot going on — textured water color, sugar and wafer paper flowers and some rustic wood planking. All edible of course! This is kind of an English garden meets modern times. I used fondant, gum paste, wafter paper, sanding sugar and royal icing to achieve all of these textures. Nothing plain Jane about this cake. People are often surprised to learn that the “wood” planks are indeed made of sugar. What I love most about this cake is the wood planking. It renders such a bold rustic look and can be done in a variety of colors to match any color scheme.
About the Artist
My little cake shop is what I like to call a bakery boutique. It’s quaint, and everything— from the shopping for ingredients to setting up the wedding cake at the reception— is done by me. Everything is custom made and though I do have various cupcakes and other treats available for drop-in service, I do not have cakes made up in advance. Those have to be special ordered. My product/cake is an extension of me and who I am. I want my clients to have what they want. When a bride wants something special, something that has been given thought and care and baked in the flavor and filling they love, then I’m the baker they are looking for.
Words of Wisdom
For brides who are looking for a baker, I strongly suggest doing your research. There are many people who will say that they do cake and they will do it for cheap. However, be cautious. Check to see that the bakery is registered as a business with the state of Oklahoma. Ask to see a copy of their Health department license. Are they insured? Ask who will be delivering your wedding cake. I get calls all the time of people who are literally frantic because they ordered their wedding cake with someone who just backed out on them because “something else” came up. I’ve even had people call and beg me to please “fix” the cake they just got from someone else and it looked like it came from cakewrecks. You get what you pay for. Good cake isn’t cheap and cheap cake isn’t good.
