Alicia Clifton and Jeff Smith’s Oklahoma Wedding at Southwind Hills Captured by Sarah Libby Photography

At a Miss America watch party in January 2007, Jeff Smith met Alicia Clifton in his mother’s kitchen. They exchanged pleasantries and saw each other more and more in the weeks to come. Jeff’s sister was the reigning Miss Oklahoma City University (OCU) and Alicia was Miss OCU’s Outstanding Teen.

Normally, Alicia and Jeff would have been too intimidated to talk to one another. Alicia thought Jeff was much older, and Jeff thought she was out of his league. These ideas facilitated the development of a strong friendship.

Alicia and Jeff went on their first date to an Oklahoma State University baseball game. Jeff had turned 16 the year prior, which meant the date was chaperoned by his father. Concessions, anthems and jeering at the umpires made for an exceptional time. Alicia will always remember Jeff nonchalantly putting his arm around her walking back to their seats with a foul ball. She had no idea he would be her eventual husband, and that ball would sit on a shelf in the home they would build together.

Jeff knew without a doubt during his first semester at OSU that he was going to marry Alicia. Four years later, he began prepping for his proposal, tentatively a year in advance. On a beachfront blanket at Lake Eufaula, with a sunset painting the canvas of the water that July night, an eight-year courtship came to a close. Alicia said yes to her high school sweetheart, and they were engaged!

The couple’s plans came to fruition February 18, 2017, when they enjoyed the wedding of their dreams. They currently live in Oklahoma City with two puppies and couldn’t be happier.

“If when I die, I’ve nothing but her love, remember me a wealthy man.”
