Caitlin and Phillip first met in high school, but it wasn’t until after college that they reconnected and went on their first date. Four years later, Phillip took Caitlin to the site where they plan to build their future home and had lights shining across the lake saying, “Will you marry me?” The surprise didn’t stop there, they went to dinner to celebrate and Phillip had booked the Martini Lounge for all of their friends and family to join the fun.
The couple was married on May 9, 2015. Their wedding day was predicted to be the worst weather day of the year, so while they planned to marry in the Bicentennial Park, Caitlin and Phillip made the tough call to keep guests safe and move things indoors to the Civic Center’s Meinders Hall of Mirrors. The bride and groom wanted to make the ceremony their own and did so by incorporating both of their cultures. The Highlanders played “Highland Cathedral” as the bride walked down the aisle. An Irish Wedding Bell was presented to the couple that they rang together after reciting their vows. Then the couple honored Phillip’s Persian culture with a traditional Persian ceremony as they sat in front of the Sofreh-ye Aghd, an elaborate spread filled with meaning and tradition for the pair to carry forward in their marriage. The wedding wouldn’t have been complete without Caitlin’s grandmother reading an Irish prayer, and Phillip’s Colombian grandfather blessing the couple.
The reception began with the couple dancing to “Is this Love” by Bob Marley. Guests were offered a full spread of Irish, Colombian and Persian fare as well as a breathtaking six-tier cake from Amy Cakes embellished with gold fondant emblems and flowers. The guests danced the night away with Born in November playing the hits and DJ PJ playing Persian music. As the couple left the reception, guests rang bells to wish them well.
Caitlin and Phillip honeymooned in Colombia, Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands. They now reside in Edmond and both work in commercial real estate in Oklahoma City.
