When one of Sarah’s best friends, Kristen Neal, said she found the perfect man for her, Sarah was quite skeptical. But after an eventful double date in March 2013, with Kristen and her now husband, Tyler, Sarah began to see why her friend thought Ethan the one for her.
Later that year, on New Year’s Eve, Ethan flew to Oklahoma City from his job with the Net’s in Brooklyn. He took Sarah ice-skating then to dinner at her favorite restaurant, Musashi’s. Next he took her to the cross outside at the LifeChurch campus, the very same spot where Ethan had asked Sarah to be his girlfriend. He opened a Bible with both their names on it and began to read Ephesians 5:21-33. Ethan got choked up while reading and it was a tender moment for the couple. After finishing the passage he knelt down on one knee and proposed. Even though it was a bitterly cold Oklahoma night, Sarah was overjoyed to accept the ring from the man of her dreams.
At Crossings Community Church, Sarah Elizabeth Privott married Ethan Dale Burton on August 16, 2014. The beautiful bride looked stunning as she was escorted down the aisle by her father in an ivory cotton lace over champagne charmeuse trumpet style gown by Jim Hjelm Blush featuring a V-neckline, open back and chapel-length train. Her veil was ivory tulle and was handmade by family friend Carolyn Cronk. To adorn her look, Sarah’s parents gave her a Swarovski necklace and earrings from Anthropologie. Sarah also borrowed her mother’s opal ring to wear. The bridal bouquet, created by Morrison Floral, was a lovely combination of garden roses, green hypericum berries, succulents, dusty miller, snapdragons, ranunculus and seeded eucalyptus.
Madeline Privott, the bride’s sister, was a perfect maid of honor. Allison Metcalf, Kelley Connel and Kristen Neal served as bridesmaids. The women wore navy, V-neckline dresses from J. Crew and carried bouquets with white hydrangeas, pink snapdragons, pink hypericum berries and seeded eucalyptus. Josh Moses, the groom’s good friend from college, served as the best man. Chris Mitchell, Tyler Neal and Kyle O’Quinn served as the groomsmen. Reese and Elle Overland were adorable flower girls and carried flower petal baskets with navy ribbons daintily dangling from the handles.
The most memorable moment from the wedding for Sarah and Ethan was the time they spent in worship during the ceremony while Josh Moses sang Sinking Deep by Hillsong Young and Free. It was such a peaceful time that the couple got to spend together and brought a calm to the hectic day. Pastor Adam Barnett officiated the ceremony and Marilyn White played the piano. Sarah and Ethan felt very blessed by all the family members who were able to celebrate with them on their wedding day.
The reception, hosted by the bride’s parents, was located at the Rose Creek Golf Club. The couple’s family and friends contributed to the décor of the venue. The lanterns were borrowed from a family friend, a friend made the wooden boxed used for centerpieces and friends helped paint and distress the books also used for centerpieces. Sarah’s mother collected milk glasses, books, trinkets and mercury glass candleholders that were used throughout the wedding. Touies Design made paper decorations and signs used at the wedding and reception. Sarah’s maternal grandmother is from Japan and several of her family members are missionaries in Okinawa. To incorporate their unique family culture, Japanese scrolls were used as the guestbook. The entire room had a casual, whimsical feeling to it, from the tabletop décor to the cake. In addition to their pink three-tier cake, guests had the option to dine on darling little pies for dessert.
The happy newlyweds took their honeymoon in Victoria, British Columbia, and Seattle, Washington. Afterward they returned to their home in Ann Arbor, Michigan, where Sarah works as a speech-language pathologist and Ethan is the head video coordinator for the University of Michigan Women’s Basketball. They feel eternally grateful to their friends for bringing them together.
