Literature Inspired Oklahoma Wedding at Gaylord Pickens Museum | Julie + Carla

When Julie’s friends invited her to a birthday party for Carla, a woman she had never met, the goal was to meet new people. Julie was immediately intrigued by Carla’s remarkable nature and the two talked all night over their many shared interests.  The relationship began as a friendship, but soon, love evolved out of an abiding bond and respect for one another. As their relationship grew, the couple discovered a mutual commitment to lifelong learning, belief in the prevailing of kindness and an acknowledgment that successful relationships are derived from the complete investment of the couple.

In January 2015, Carla told Julie she planned a special dinner for the two of them at The George, but to Julie’s confusion, the two were unexpectedly taken to the Myriad Botanical Gardens instead. When they arrived the venue looked closed, but two gentlemen were waiting at the doors of the Crystal Bridge to usher the couple in. As Julie and Carla walked through the doors, they were approached by a young man who began serenading them with John Legend’s “All of Me.” Carla had arranged for the talented young man to surprise Julie, and after he finished singing, Carla proposed!

Julie and Carla were married on September 12, 2015, at the Gaylord-Pickens Museum. Through their mutual love of poetry and literature, the couple decided to incorporate the readings of beautiful passages from Captain Correlli’s “Mandolin,” another passage from “Gift From the Sea” by Anne Morrow Lindberg, and verses from 1 Corinthians 13. At the reception, Julie sang an acoustic version of “I Choose You” to Carla and their children, Asher and Sutton. Julie and Carla’s heart-warming vows were built upon the foundation of compassion, courage, joy and steadfastness!

The newlyweds plan to honeymoon in Napa Valley, Calistoga Ranch in 2016. The couple currently resides in Edmond.
