Melissa and Josh met at the Oklahoma State Fair in 2010. Because of dozens of mutual friends and Josh’s unwavering persistence, they started dating soon after, just a few months before Melissa moved to China for six months. The long distance relationship wasn’t something the couple had planned, but they knew they had something special. After much prayer, love and commitment, they knew they would be married eventually. Melissa is wedding photographer, so marriage was always on her mind. The couple planned to get engaged in early 2015, but on November 11, 2014, Josh surprised Melissa by knocking on her door and being knelt on one knee when she opened it.
The two were married on April 11, 2015, at The Stone Barn at Blueberry Hill. Being involved with so many weddings, Melissa already had a list of her favorite vendors to work with including Juniper Designs for florals, Jordan Gullo Catering, Kahoy Studios, Jamie Jones Photography, and Ethnos Creative. Melissa wore a beautiful, custom-designed dress lavished with embellishments while Josh wore a tailored burgundy suit from Asos.
The ceremony was officiated by Josh’s mentor and pastor, Adam Barnett. Melissa walked down the aisle to “Turning Page” by Sleeping at Last. The couple exchanged rings, took communion, and vowed to love each other through “the bad that may darken their days, and the good that will light their way.” Their family, closest friends and their dog, Clancy, joined them in the front row.
The reception was a lovely, energetic mix of dancing, feasting and s’more making around the fire pit. Melissa’s second love is donuts, so Josh made a custom donut wall for his bride to go with their donut hole cake. The couple shared a second first dance to “As Long As Our Hearts Are Beating” by Jenny & Tyler. The couple honeymooned in Portland, Oregon, where they plan on moving to in 2016!
