Tony Foss and DeWayne Huff’s Tropical Paradise Inspired Wedding at The Colcord Hotel

Sunday, February 29, 2004, was a crisp end of winter day with a light warm breeze hinting at new life to come in spring. DeWayne, driving from Perkins, Oklahoma, and Tony, in Oklahoma City, were headed to an Oscars party given by a mutual friend. The pair did not know one another and in turn, did not know how their lives would change that evening. Arriving at the party, DeWayne was being introduced to guests when he spotted Tony. Tony’s blue eyes are what stood out most to him; they were a mix of mischievousness and caring. Tony says that when DeWayne smiled, he knew this would be more than a casual introduction. By the end of the evening, DeWayne had been invited to Tony’s birthday party later in the week. Having attended the party and charming another group of Tony’s friends, DeWayne started visiting Tony every weekend and by June, he had moved to Oklahoma City.

In August, the couple held a commitment ceremony to share with their family and friends. DeWayne and Tony supported each other in their work endeavors; Tony watched DeWayne thrive in his teaching career, while DeWayne watched Tony transition from a popular hair stylist to an in-demand florist. Throughout 11 years together, the two shared family passages as well as new beginnings. Their circle of friends grew and special friends became their family.

When October 2014 arrived along with the passage of marriage equality, DeWayne and Tony never thought the opportunity to be married would be available to them. Tony asked DeWayne twice to marry him – the first time, DeWayne didn’t say no but, “Not yet.” Celebrating their 11th anniversary of when they first met, Tony asked DeWayne again to marry him and he said, “Yes!” Together, they planned a unique celebration of their love and life together. The date was set for Monday, February 29, 2016 – another Leap Year! The rehearsal dinner was an evening of Old Hollywood Glam, a nod to the night they first met. The wedding turned the Colcord Hotel into an over-the-top tropical paradise. As DeWayne walked down the aisle to the tune of “Like I’m Gonna Lose You,” Tony’s blue eyes welled with tears and DeWayne’s smile still melted Tony’s heart.
