Abigail Ogle and Jeff Ewing’s Sports-Inspired Oklahoma Wedding at Coles Garden
Abigail and Jeff wouldn’t have met if it wasn’t for their shared love of sports. In July of 2013, Abigail was a sports anchor/reporter and Jeff was planning a major golf tournament at Oak Tree National in Edmond. Abby was asked to host a panel event in Edmond where Jeff was one of the panelists. The rest is history!
Three years and dozens of sporting events later, Abby and Jeff were planning their wedding. The bride-to-be realized that a groom’s opinions are often left out. Abby wanted Jeff to feel “at home” at the wedding, too. She asked him to describe his ideal wedding in one word. His response? Fun.
Knowing she wanted to include sports and fun into an elegant wedding, Abby decided to assemble a team. The sports-loving bride thought of it like a football team. If a quarterback is surrounded by talented playmakers, the QB is more likely to win the game. Abby (and the head coach – her mom!) worked with talented, hardworking teammates to create a wedding perfect for the couple.
Abby dreamed of an elegant, flower-filled wedding; a garden soiree followed by a sports-themed reception. The bride’s team (dubbed “The Dream Team”) figured out several ways to inject sports into the reception without bringing down the level of elegance. Knowing there would be a lot of girly elements, Abby and her Dream Team came up with The Dugout. The special place allowed guests to have their choice of stadium cuisine (gourmet hotdogs, sliders, pretzels, mac and cheese and other ballpark favorites) while browsing photos of Abby and Jeff at a variety of stadiums. Jeff’s St. Louis Cardinals cake was predominately on display!
The highlight of the reception was the Ogle Family Band starring several members of Abby’s family. Abby’s Uncle Kent sang lead while her dad rocked out on the drums. Surprising everyone, Jeff joined them! Little did the bride know that her groom had been rehearsing for weeks!
Another fun element of the evening was the photo booth. The couple wanted theirs to be unique, so they had “big heads” made of them for guests to include in their pictures. At the end of the evening, guests cheered on the new couple as they exited the wedding with poms representing colors of their favorite teams.
Abby and Jeff feel they achieved their wedding goals. This sports-loving couple considers their wedding a home run!
