Romantic Wedding at Gaylord Pickens Oklahoma Heritage Museum | Susan + William

Susan Sloan and William Kent met through mutual friends, as many people do. However, this friendship was not that ordinary. After sitting together at a friend’s birthday party, the two were inseparable. They did everything together and loved it! They started dating in October 2011 and were the happiest they had ever been, that is, until the day they got engaged.

The proposal was casual and completely adorable. Both Susan and William are huge movie lovers and often enjoyed a casual night in with one another. One of their most favorite activities was having a cozy movie night with popcorn. William had thought of the perfect idea for the proposal. As the couple was sitting down for their movie night, William popped the popcorn. He secretly placed the engagement ring in the bowl with the rest of the buttery popcorn. He then walked to the couch and sat down with Susan as they started the movie and the “special popcorn.” It took Susan a few missed handfuls of popcorn to notice the engagement ring shimmering in the bowl. As William was awaiting the reaction from his bride-to-be, she discovered his buttery surprise. After the butter was removed, William asked Susan the most exciting question, and of course, she responded with, “Yes!” William knew he had executed the perfect proposal.

The two were married on September 13, 2014, at the Gaylord-Pickens Oklahoma Heritage Museum. Traci White, a family friend, along with Paisley Pearl Events helped the couple plan their fairytale wedding and reception. Susan and William were married by wedding officiant Phil Jackson. In lieu of sprinkling rose petals, the adorable flower girl and ring bearer carried a “Here Comes the Bride” sign down the aisle. Susan’s matron of honor was her sister-in-law, Meghan Sloan. Her father, Phillip Craig Sloan, escorted her down the aisle. The bride looked stunning in a strapless, floor-length gown. It was embellished with ivory-embroidered lace over a champagne underlay. She accessorized her wedding look with a pearl and crystal necklace with ivory satin ribbon, along with crystal cluster earrings by Nina. Susan carried a beautiful bouquet filled with a mixture of ivory and blush flowers. It was sealed together with ivory satin ribbon.

The bridesmaids wore knee-length, navy, shantung silk, sleeveless dresses with a V-neckline. They carried garden style bouquets of baby’s breath, tied with the same satin ribbon. Instead of incorporating a traditional candle or sand ceremony into the wedding, the couple opted to do a wine ceremony by mixing red and white wine into one. A special touch that made the ceremony look exquisite was the bride and groom initials titivating the gate of the museum.

The couple held their reception at the Gaylord-Pickens Museum as well. They had a croquembouche, which is a traditional French wedding dessert, served for their guests in place of traditional wedding cake.

Entertainment presented by Clark Creative Music provided the happy couple and their friends and family with great music to dance the night away! Among the songs, “How Long Will I Love you” by Ellie Goulding was chosen by the bride and groom for their first dance. When reminiscing on their special day, Susan says her most memorable moment was saying, “I do,” to William. She will never forget the moment they became husband and wife.

After a long night of celebration, the couple left the reception through a tunnel of family and friends, who sent them off with sparklers. The couple hopped into a limo and jetted off to their honeymoon in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.
