A garden party wedding with a modern mauve color palette makes for the most elegant summer wedding. Thuy and Joseph wed on a summer afternoon with a traditional Catholic mass and a reception that followed at the Renaissance Waterford. The two met in the 9th grade while attending the same class at their church. Thuy and Joseph remained friends until college, where they both studied microbiology at the University of Oklahoma. Constantly seeing each other while in class and at youth group on the weekends, Joseph finally asked Thuy out. After a few years of dating, Joseph proposed to Thuy while on a trip in the Pacific Northwest. We can just imagine how beautiful that proposal must have been! However, we are so excited to share all the beautiful images captured by Ashley Sunderland in their modern mauve wedding.
Thuy and Joseph’s wedding day began with a traditional Vietnamese Tea Ceremony. The groom (Joseph), his family, and his groomsmen came over to the bride’s (Thuy’s) parent’s house to ask her hand in marriage. The groom’s family comes with seven trays of gifts, including fruits and traditional pastries. The couple then offered tea to their parents and grandparents as a sign of respect and to thank them. Next, the couple received lucky red envelopes containing gifts from their immediate family members with well wishes for their marriage. After the tea ceremony is over, the bride’s family provides lunch so that both families can eat a meal together. Once the lunch ended, the couple headed to the church for their Catholic ceremony. Their ceremony took place in the church where the couple first met. So sentimental and sweet! Ashley Sunderland captured their first moments as husband and wife and then took the couple across downtown OKC to grab more pics. Thuy looked gorgeous standing next to her groom with a half-up hairstyle and natural makeup from Brushed. Finally, the couple made their way to The Waterford for cocktail hour and reception. Inside their modern mauve reception were decor and rentals from Marianne’s. A stellar dessert table with a cake from Amy Cakes and macaroons from Cafe Disco provided all the sweetness for guests. We love this special and intimate celebration between Thuy and Joseph. Keep scrolling to see all the images from their modern mauve wedding.
From the bride on her favorite detail: “We had a modified version of the Vietnamese Traditional Tea Ceremony the morning of our wedding. It was a special time when both of our extended families met and shared the special day with us.”
